I spent a fair bit of time yesterday writing up a large article on the history of porn for women.

The article looks at the origins of the male centerfold in the 70s and tracks the development of women's porn through to the present.

It's not a huge history, admittedly, but it's still quite expansive given that many people still don't believe that "porn for women" is a legitimate idea.

We've come a long way, baby.

Did you know that a recent survey found that the celebrity women most wanted to see naked was Matthew McConaughey?

The survey, by the Chicago Sun-Times was surprised to find that women were so gung-ho keen to see naked male celebrities. I'm not sure why. Getting it on with the hunky superstar of choice has been a standard fantasy for a very long time, I suspect.

Woohoo! I did it! I worked out why the links down the side kept repeating over and over. It was the blogdateheader tag that was stuffing things up.

Do you know I've had this blog for almost 3 years now? Wow. Poor neglected thing that it is.

I've been reading about Anna Span, who is a British porn director. Apparently she makes porn movies with a female perspective.

Funny how time flies. And funny how ten months flies like a 747. I can't believe my last post was in January.

Still, here I am, reviving this blog, if only for a little bit.

What have I done in ten months? I'm asking myself that question! Aside from working constantly at For The Girls, I've been maintaining a huge list of sites, running my linklist and blog at Ms Naughty Porn for Women, putting out fires, worrying about the stupid 2257 legislation, promoting FTG, moving my large AVS sites to a new company and I also went overseas.

I've made quite a few contacts within the porn industry too. And I've seen a growth in interest in erotica for women. I've got to know porn director Estelle Joseph who makes the City of Flesh series, and seen Tony Comstock's real sex movies go from strength to strength.

In terms of tangible (read: online) stuff:

I created a major site for Adult Video Planet called Hetero Male Porn Stars. This is a site offering movie clips of the best looking male porn stars, taken from high quality movies. It's a site designed primarily for female surfers. Fact is, a lot of men in the porn industry are just gorgeous, but they're always playing second fiddle to the women. I thought it was time they got their own site.

I've been building up my list of female-friendly adult films at Porn Movies for Women. It seems that there are a number of naughty girly movies in the works, so I can't wait to see those.

For The Girls is going really well. We had a fabulous review posted on Jane's Guide the other day.

I've launched a new 4women linklist called Ms Naughty's Porn for Women. Been very busy for the last month making it.

The media have picked up on the idea of women's erotica, usually referring to it as "chick porn". I've written an article about the idea of "chick porn" here.

For the Girls and we were seen very VERY briefly on TV.

Also I've rejigged the tours for Pure Cunnilingus and The Autofellatio Site. I'm getting very good with Photoshop now, if I do say so myself :)

I also made a site called Orgasmic Male Faces. Porn very rarely shows a man's face during orgasm - the focus is always on semen. This is because most porn is for men and semen is their visual experience of male orgasm. For women, however, it's always his face that we see. So I thought I'd make a site that showed male faces at that point of ecstasy. It's much more human. And a man is very vulnerable and completely himself at that point.

The other big thing I've done is create a site within the ARS movie network called Couples Pleasure Dome. This site has scenes from full length porn movies, and I chose them because women and couples will enjoy them.

I think movies will be the next big thing in internet porn, as more people get broadband access. Unfortunately the vast majority of movies are made for men, and it's harder to adapt them for female audiences. Still I chose the best ones out there.

There's still not many porn movies for women out there. I know because I've spent waaaay too many hours researching, trying to list movies that women might be interested in. My new site has a fairly decent list of them now. There's a whole lotta instructional videos too.

I made another site called Goddess Erotica, which is kind of highbrow erotica with articles about spiritual sex... and it's got some nice black and white photography on it.

The promotional week for For The Girls went really well, our site is now much better known and is being more thoroughly promoted. There are still people out there advertising the defunct Ladies Secret... if only they could advertise us!!

We're going to add more movies to FTG, there's some seriously good ones out there. I enjoyed Antique Erotica, which features really old movies and a jazz soundtrack. It's good to watch because they didn't employ all those stupid porn movie cliches. They smile, the play together, they make love, even if it is for the camera. Good smut!

I made a site about Muff Diving. Unfortunately muff diving tends to mean lesbian oral sex, as opposed to male-female cunnilingus... it's so hard for women to find that kind of content because all they get is fake lesbian stuff.

I'm back... and women's porn is in the news again
Been away for a few weeks, and now I'm back "beavering" away on my gazillion porn sites, trying to change links left right and centre. The paysites Ladies Secret and Red Hot Guys are no longer operating, so I'm going through all my sites and taking down their banners.

Of course, this leaves a big gap in the market for For The Girls. I've got a big promotional week ahead of me :)

Meanwhile, women's porn is in the news again. In February the New York Times deigned to write about women and porn. It's mainly due to the Sweet Action girls and their extremely successful promo blitz. They've succeeded in making the media take notice, and suddenly "women like porn" is the new buzz.

I guess I'm jealous. I'd love that kind of publicity. What's interesting is that it's because Sweet Action is a print mag... there's something about hard copy that seems to have made it real to the media. The vibe I get is that internet porn is still all sleazy or non-legitimate, but if it's in a magazine, it must be good.

What's also interesting has been the "youth" angle. Suddenly, they're all out to say "Playgirl is soooo passe, these chicks are hip and groovy and young, this is what women really want." This has just made me realise (once again) that women have extremely varied tastes, and that while the skinny every day guys that appear in Sweet Action will appeal to some women, they won't appeal to all.

Don't get me wrong, I can only admire the Sweet Action girls, they're fighting the good fight. They do have a hard road ahead, especially as they've taken on hard copy magazine publishing when every other smut mag is losing readers. At the same time, the women's smut mag market is pretty much wide open, so they do have an opportunity, and the press are certainly helping them get out there.

Tomorrow I'm going on the Darren Austin show with the Sweet Action girls, and Cathedra, to talk about porn for women. Here's hoping Darren remembers to ring me at the right time.

One of the interesting figures coming out of the NY Times article was the latest statistics. According to Neilsen Netratings, 10 million American women went looking for porn in December (as opposed to 9 million in September). And another company, ComScore Media Matrix, said 42% of porn surfers were women, with the highest rates among women aged 18 to 34.

That 42% figure may be a bit high, and lord knows all the male webmasters immediately said "yeah, but they don't BUY". Even so, I find it very VERY encouraging.

Now... if I can just get the courage up to out myself as a pornographer I could do my own media blitz...

Still difficult for women to find pictures of naked men so I've put up a page to help them out.

I've put up a porn for women page on Streakerama, in the hope of helping women find what they want despite the current Google mess.

I'm also feeling really pissed off because comments I wrote on a message board were plagiarised and passed off as another person's on a different board. I feel like posting a really nasty post about this person, or something! Grrr.

I've started up another site about porn for women, I've written an article there about the various aspects of porn for women. More on this later.

At the moment it's really hard for women to find what they're after as Google's new algorithm has resulted in extremely crappy search results. If you type in porn for women (without quote marks) you actually get anti-porn crusade sites, from crazed conservative women.

Over new year this report came out in, of all places, the Hindustan Times. It discusses research done by Stanford University in California which shows that women become turned on by porn films far quicker than men do. It only took them about 2 minutes on average. They also found that women responded better to explicit stuff than to more romantic erotic films.

Not surprising really!

Seventeen Years Since The First Erotica Film for Women
... and not enough has changed.
Candida Royalle made a huge breakthrough in the mid eighties with her Femme series of films, the first adult movies made from a female perspective. Today there still aren't enough of these videos, so the Femme series remains popular. Candida's site is great, but the most interesting page is her "behind the scenes" stories of making the Femme films. She details her efforts to make erotica that reflected the experiences of women, and the problems (and success) she encountered. So much of her philosophy is spot-on, and I can only stand and applaud that she did all this in the eighties, with so little support.

What's also interesting is that Candida had to put up with EXACTLY THE SAME male responses 17 years ago that I get now. Back then male porn gurus were saying her films would fail simply because she didn't have "the money shot! And today so many other webmasters keep saying to me "Women aren't visual" and "Women don't like porn." Which is what they said to Candida. She proved them wrong then, and For The Girls is proving them now :)
